This beautiful plant is probably the most recognizable of all prairie wildflowers. Its familiar drooping petals are its most characteristic feature. The roots are thought to contain powerful medicinal properties which alleviate symptoms of the common cold. Although there is no valid scientific evidence to support this theory, the plant remains in high demand for its use in homeopathic cold remedies.
